Purpose of an Egg Donor Program
An egg donor program assists individuals or couples who are unable to conceive using their own eggs, providing them with a chance to achieve pregnancy through the use of donated eggs. These programs match eligible egg donors with recipients, offering hope to those facing infertility challenges. Donors undergo medical screening and procedures to retrieve their eggs, fertilize them, and transfer them to the recipient. This process helps families grow by making parenthood possible for those who might not otherwise have the opportunity.
There are many reasons why some women may not be able to use their own eggs, including:
- Advanced age
- Premature menopause
- Premature ovarian failure
- Absence of ovaries from birth
- Previous chemotherapy or ovarian surgery
- Poor egg quality
- Genetic disorders
- Inadequate response to fertility drugs
- Multiple failed IVF cycles
- Carriers of genetic disorders
- Abnormal uterus
Women may choose to donate their eggs for several meaningful reasons. Some are motivated by the desire to help others experience the joy of parenthood, especially those facing infertility struggles. Knowing they can make a life-changing difference in someone’s journey to start a family can be deeply rewarding. Others are drawn to the opportunity to contribute to medical advancements in reproductive health. Additionally, egg donation often comes with financial compensation, which can be helpful to donors, particularly young women, as they pursue their own goals, such as education or career development.
Egg donation is a generous act and an opportunity to leave a lasting impact on another family’s future.
The Process of Our Egg Donor Program
The egg donor program at NCCRM involves stimulating the donor’s ovaries to produce multiple eggs fertilized with sperm from the recipient’s partner, a donor, or a spouse. Recipients undergo hormone therapy to prepare the uterine lining for embryo transfer. Before the procedure, couples complete a thorough medical and psychological evaluation, select donor candidates, and attend an educational session.
Donors must meet specific height/weight criteria for optimal medication effectiveness, be available for multiple morning appointments, and arrange transportation for egg retrieval. Matching usually takes 3-5 months.

The Cost of Egg Donor Program
There is no cost to the egg donor. Since the donor is compensated for her participation in the program, recipient couples must cover the donor’s fees and the cost of her treatment before egg retrieval. For more information, contact NCCRM by calling our office at 919.233.1680
